Free Pine Needles Quilt Pattern

Written by: Areanne Collins

Pine Needles is a free pattern that utilizes yardage, fat quarters, or scraps to make a throw size quilt. Plus, there’s a bonus layout design that uses 1/2 yard cuts of fabric, so there are plenty of ways to make this pattern depending on what you have on hand!

This pattern uses simple strips of fabric pieced together to make a modern design that is perfect for beginner quilters.

For this version, I used cotton wovens to give the quilt lots of texture!

  1. I am making your twisted tiles baby quilt. Pattern says 4 colors ( I am using your exact fabrics) but the diagram looks like 5. I am a new quilter can you clarify for me?

    1. Hi Sandi, thanks for asking! I just checked the pattern, and it is 4 colors. There should be 4 columns with 5 rows, and each block uses the four colors. I suggest as a new quilter that you label your fabric pieces as you cut them so you don’t get mixed up, and refer to the diagram on page 9 for placement of all the pieces πŸ™‚ Hope that helps, and feel free to ask questions as needed!

      1. Thank you so much for your help, love your snug as a bug and perhaps your son clinched the deal. Any thoughts on backing? I will send this to a long arm quilter, probably do straight line quilting, I don’t dare try that myself. Yes I have labels and notes everywhere, and read your strong suggestion to starch everything, best press will be my friend. Your ideas are just what I am looking for. Thank you again Sandi Oren new fan of Pine stitches

      2. Aw, thank you so much! Let me know if you need any more help! I used minky fabric for my baby quilt backing, and your longarmer should have no problem quilting that material, but you can always double check with them to be sure. The minky is especially soft and perfect for baby cuddles. Oh, and I used a minky with dimple dots from fabric.com.
